The term cosmeceutical was coined by the American dermatologist Albert Klingman at the beginning of 80s. It refers to a cosmetic but is based on active principles as a pharmaceutical.
Why cosmetic? Because it has no side effects as a pharmaceutical. Why pharmaceutical? Because it goes deep into external skin with excellent effects.
Cosmeceutical formula are prepared with a dermatological purpose.
The utmost active principles used in the cosmetic field are: retinol, tocopheryl acetate, bisabolol, urea, alpha and beta hydroxyl acid, lipoic acid, DMAE etc.
Thanks to cosmeceuticals the cosmetology is turning into a real science. This evolution offers the chance to formulate particular cosmetics technologically spearheading. |
